Welcome to 2018! In case you missed it, I’ve decided to dedicate this year to achieving balance. In my fiction-loving life, that means making more time for reading, as well as working on my own manuscripts (instead of only editing other people’s novels). It also means another tweak to the ol’ blog to provide a clearer focus (and more relevant content) without overworking myself.

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you’ve noticed a mix of writing-related and reading-related posts. Not all readers care about the effort it takes to write a book, though, and not all writers care about my personal experiences or my favorite books. I love talking about both and there’s an audience for both, so what’s a girl to do?

Easy. Start a new blog.

In 2018, this blog will shift to focus completely on the writing side of fiction – writing, editing, publishing, author interviews, guest posts, and more! The Karin Beery Blog will be your source for fiction-writing tips and suggestions. Everything a new writer needs to know.

Don’t worry readers – I haven’t forgotten you! In fact, I have something exciting lined up for you!

I am thrilled to announce the birth of a new blog for readers of clean, contemporary fiction. This month we’re launching the Romance Readers Café, where writers and readers meet to mingle, chat, and enjoy clean, contemporary romance. I’m joining forces with other contemporary romance authors to give readers a behind-the-scenes look at our inspirations, motivations, and what makes a romance writer tick! I’ll be posting there once a month, as will my fellow baristas:

Austin Ryan
Beth Olsson (website coming soon!)
Loraine Nunley
Mikal Dawn
Mollie Joy Rushmeyer

While we’re mostly new writers (some of us still waiting for that first, elusive publishing contract), we’re excited for this opportunity to share more of our insights (and personal stories!) with readers.

As for this blog, I’m going to start the new year like I would a new book, and I’m going to take writers with me on that writing journey. We’ll look at everything from coming up with your story idea to figuring the editing process to learning how to work with an agent. I’ll also continue to share guest posts from other authors – it should be an educational year!

Next week Laurie Lucking will give us a look into her writing process, then we’ll kick off the writing journey on January 25. I have most of the year mapped out, but want to make sure I cover everything you’ve ever wondered about fiction writing, so please tell me – what would you like to learn more about?

I can’t wait to walk with you along this path – here’s to a productive (and balanced) 2018!
