When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

This was my first Colleen Hoover book. I wasn’t sure which to read first, so I just picked the first one that popped up available at my library.

I should have done a bit more research. (Mild spoilers below.)

I’m not opposed to sex in general market romance novels (I expect it), but I won’t usually pick up a book in which the plot revolves around no-strings-attached sex. That’s my fault for not checking, so I’m rating the book based on that.

Then, as it always happens, there was no way to know that this would be a split timeline novel until I picked it up and started reading. I TRIED to keep reading, but I just do not like split timeline–that was an automatic ding for me.

I made it about 30% of the way through the book before I jumped to the back to see how it ended, and most of that was Miles’s fault. I’m not a big fan of melodrama in general; turns out I’m 100% not a fan of melodramatic men. I’m sure there are people who found him broodingly charming, but he just felt creepy to me. He became obsessed with Rachel upon seeing her. I hoped he’d grown as a person, but at the end of the book you find out he did the same thing with Tate. It wasn’t love at first sight; it was obsession. It creeped me out a bit.

This one just didn’t do it for me, but I’ll probably try another Hoover book later (making sure the story is more in line with what I usually pick and crossing my fingers that it’s not split timeline).
