Last year I had the pleasure of attending the Write-to-Publish Conference in Illinois. I learned so much and met such wonderful people (like Diana Flegal here, an agent with Hartline Literary Agency).

Today’s writing prompt is about your conferences experiences – what’s your favorite/fondest memory of someone you met at a conference?

Meeting Diana is definitely one of mine. We didn’t see much of each other during the day, but we spent a couple of evenings together at the local bar (that’s right) where we watched the Stanley Cup Finals, Diana rooting for some team in Pennsylvania 😉 while I cheered on my Detroit Red Wings.

For a newbie writer it was a fabulous opportunity. I’d never spoken with an agent before, so I had the chance to get to know her before I officially met with her. It took a lot of the fear out the situation and, I believe, helped me to relax for the rest of that conference (as well as the next). Not only that, but Diana is a pleasure to know and we’ve developed quite the friendship (especially since we’re willing to overlook each others’ athletic allegiances).

How about you? Who have you met at a conference that made an impact?
