Naomi Westfield has the perfect fiancé: Nicholas Rose holds doors open for her, remembers her restaurant orders, and comes from the kind of upstanding society family any bride would love to be a part of. They never fight. They’re preparing for their lavish wedding that’s three months away. And she is miserably and utterly sick of him.

Naomi wants out, but there’s a catch: whoever ends the engagement will have to foot the nonrefundable wedding bill. When Naomi discovers that Nicholas, too, has been feigning contentment, the two of them go head-to-head in a battle of pranks, sabotage, and all-out emotional warfare.

But with the countdown looming to the wedding that may or may not come to pass, Naomi finds her resolve slipping. Because now that they have nothing to lose, they’re finally being themselves–and having fun with the last person they expect: each other.

I picked this book up for two reasons: I loved the cover, and — after actually reading the back cover copy of a book — I loved the idea of a non-romance where they couple was trying to break up.

I still love the cover, and I love the idea of the story, but the author’s writing style just wasn’t for me. It’s a different flow/combination of narration and dialogue that I struggled to get into, so I did skim quite a bit, but there were scenes that I just adored (French fries on the hood of the car!). And as much as I thought I’d love second-chance romance from a different perspective, turns out it’s still not my favorite.

If you’re not as picky about writing style as I am (and I think that’s most people) and you enjoy a light-hearted romance that will still get all your other emotions going (Deborah!), I highly recommend this book. The last few chapters alone make it worth the time.

Rated PG-13 (I think–there might have been some steamy scenes that I skimmed.)
