Once upon a time, Maggie Cooper lived for adventure. Jumping out of planes was child’s play. Now she can’t even work up the nerve to ask out her coworker. For a bit of self-therapy, she begins to text her recently deceased mother’s phone—the only problem is that the number has been reassigned and for weeks she’s been unknowingly texting a stranger her deepest thoughts and feelings. There have also been some not-so-deep texts, like the ones about her appreciation for her coworker’s butt.

When Chase Beckett, the unsuspecting stranger who has more in common with Maggie than he’d like to admit, texts back, Maggie is beyond mortified. But message after message and night after night, Maggie realizes that Chase’s wit, charm, and advice are exactly what the doctor ordered. Is it enough, though, to get her back up in the sky? And what about her heart? Can she risk taking a leap of faith for the man on the other end of her accidental texts?

I’ve been a fan of Becky Monson for a while, but I’ve also been trying to discover new-to-me authors, so I haven’t read her books in a while. I’ve been in a bit of a contemporary romance slump, though, so I pulled this up on my Kindle and prayed it would live up to her earlier works.

It did not disappoint.

I’m often disappointed in romcoms because I don’t actually laugh–I don’t know if it’s my sense of humor or if the authors don’t understand the “com” half of the genre, but I’m usually let down. Not so with Monson. I get her humor, and I like it. It’s especially needed in this book, which opens with Maggie still mourning the death of her mother.

Not your typical romcom start, but Monson handles it beautifully. The characters immediately captured my attention and pulled me into the story. I did want to hit Maggie a few times for being dense, but she’s 20 years younger than me, so I couldn’t be too hard on her.

If you’re looking for drama, gut-wrenching tension, and over-the-top prose, skip this book. But if you want a swoony, lighthearted, easy-to-read story that includes all kinds of feels, I highly recommend this book.
