What was your favorite picture book as a child?
Sammy the Seal was my absolute favorite. I can’t recall how many times I checked out that book from the library, but to this day I still enjoy that story. I think I liked it because Sammy craved adventure and he experienced things he wouldn’t have if he’d stayed in the zoo. I love to travel, and I suspect my love of traveling could be one of the reasons I enjoyed that book so much as a young child. I also love adventure and new things.
Have you ever had a book recommended to you that you didn’t like? No names, but what didn’t you like about it?
Absolutely. If a book doesn’t grab me in chapter one, I don’t go any further, no matter how popular or highly recommend it is. Often times, it’s just bad timing on my part. As in, I’m not in the right head space or mood for that book at that moment in time. I read most books on Kindle, so generally, I’ll give the book another try later. Often times I really enjoy a book on second look and other times, it’s simply not for me, and I move on.
I completely understand that! Have you ever finished a story and wished it had ended differently? How would you have changed the ending?
Sadly, yes. I don’t want to name it, but I once read a story that killed off a main series character in the end. I didn’t want her to die and hoped the writer would have the Lord heal her, but it didn’t happen. It was devastating. I realize we are talking about fiction, but it’s easy to become attached to well-written characters.
Yes, it is! If you could visit any fictional place, where would you go?
This place is real, but I read about it in a fiction book, so I hope it counts. I’d love to go to Skye Scotland. It sounds so quaint and picturesque. I suppose some of the charm is from the books I’ve read, but based on what I’ve heard from people who’ve actually been there, it’s worth the trip.
Again, I understand — I’m desperate to get to the English countryside. 🙂
If you could turn any of your books into a movie, which would you pick? Who would cast as the main characters?
I actually adapted A Waltz for Amber to screenplay a couple of years ago. The book was optioned by a production company, but the option contract ended up expiring before we could get a response from Hallmark. I just let it die and moved on. I chose this book since it caught the attention of a producer. It’s a Christmas story and Christmas stories are so much fun!
How exciting though! Maybe it will happen again.
What book are you most looking forward to reading next? Why?
I read a lot of suspense, but the books I generally look forward to reading the most are sweet contemporary romance novels. They are a breath of fresh air after all the suspense I read and write (lol). I’m most looking forward to reading Here In Hart’s Crossing because it contains four novellas. I love well-written novellas! They have a short time commitment, and I get the experience of a complete story. I also really enjoy Robin Lee Hatcher’s writing.
Share five books from your TBR (to be read) pile.
I’m pulling these titles from my Kindle Library. I have so many to read! Here are the most recent I’ve uploaded.
Mountain Survival by Christy Barritt
The Crittendon Files by Creston Mapes
Obsession by Patrica Bradely
Here In Hart’s Crossing by Robin Lee Hatcher
To Love by Laura Scott
Thanks for having me on your blog, Karin! I love books. They are my greatest weakness when it comes to buying things. If I could I think I’d spend most days reading.
