I’ll be honest — I picked up this audiobook for the sole reason that the narrator would have a Scottish accent. I knew nothing about the author, the book, or the series.

It started right in with physical attraction/lust between Cait and Graham. That made me think it was going to turn into a bodice ripper with no real depth. Then it jumped right into tragedy, and I realized this wasn’t just a book about sex (though there is quite a bit of lusting after each other and a couple of bedroom scenes).

My emotions were all over the place with this book — frustration, anger, joy, and directed at several of the characters. But Griffin did a good job of introducing the characters before jumping onto the emotional roller coaster, so I knew who to root for and why I wanted them to succeed. I also realized (once again) that I am not a naturally forgiving or patient person, because I wouldn’t have put up with half the stuff Cait endured. It fit her character, though, so I kept reading.

This is truly one of those books that will make you laugh and cry and swoon. It reminded me a bit of a Nicholas Sparks book, but with a lot more heat and romance. (And it absolutely makes me want to visit Scotland!).
