Wow – what a crazy winter. If you’re anything like me, you spent all fall waiting for the holidays, then cheered when it was finally time to take down the Christmas decorations and get back to normal life.

This winter has been especially challenging for me. In addition to the insanely cold temperatures and ridiculous amounts of snow, there have been days (weeks) of overcast

skies with very little sun (to read more about my experience with the winter blues, stop by The Barn Door of Feb. 3 to see how I’m managing). I’ve picked up some extra feature-story writing for local papers, am talking with some authors about editing their manuscripts, and working on maximizing the use of my time. I set some goals for myself this year (check ’em out here), but have made a few more discoveries and decisions to make the most of 2014.

Here’s what’s happening:

1. American Christian Fiction Writers – Great Lakes Chapter president: In November I was elected as president for 2014. I’m only the second president, so this is our first transition. I’m working hard with the board to make sure we get everything in place for future transitions. It’s taking a lot more time than I originally expected, but it’s work that I enjoy, so I appreciate the challenge.

2. Social Media: I’m constantly learning how to use social media more effectively and more efficiently. I don’t want to just understand it for myself; I want to help others use it too. I’m experimenting with Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, and I’m hoping to become more scheduled and structured, much like my blog.

3. Speaking of my blog: Four times a month seems a little too intermittent for me. I’ve been posting every week, but with 30/31 days a month, the left side of my brain says those don’t divide easily by four. Five – that’s a better number. I’m going to add one more post a month, creating more symmetry. Here’s the updated schedule:

1st: Author Interview

7th: Everything Fiction

13th: Guest Post

19th: Editing, Writing, or Other Industry News

25th: What, What? (Thank you Cougar Town) Updates and Other Misc. Info

4. Critiques: I’ve gotten back into critiquing, and I’m sorry I waited so long. I’m enjoying helping others and the help they give me. I’m actually making time for it now, not just squeezing it in when I can.

That’s how life goes for this writer. Still working toward publication. Still trying to help others. Still eating more pizza than is healthy.
