I just returned from a wonderful writer’s conference (I’ll write more about it on October 30). I learned a lot of useful things (as usual), but one thing really jumped out at me at the first session. It inspired and motivated me – you’re going to reap the benefits. Here’s the story …
The first class I attended was Blogging Past the Blah, Blah, Blah. If you’ve been reading my blog this year, you know why I picked that class – my blog is boring. That’s okay, you can agree. I wanted to do something professional this year, to make my blog a resource.
BLEH!
It’s a resource alright – a great example of how to take a somewhat successful blog and flush it down the crapper. This year presented a lot of helpful info, but it lost me. This weekend’s conference reminded me that my blog is a reflection of me – I need to offer you something, but I also need to be true to myself. It’s time to get back to Karin’s writings.
I’m still working out the details, but I’ve already decided on a few things:
1. There will be more funny.
2. There will be more romance.
3. There will be more movie/TV references.
4. There will be more interviews.
I can’t imagine you’ve enjoyed reading my blog this year … it’s certainly been a struggle for me to write it. That’s not right on so many levels. That will change. I promise. Next month I’ll wrap up the ‘hot to publish a book’ series (for the three of you out there waiting for the next post), then we’ll have a Christmas tribute in December. January? Just you wait …
Well, that’s about it. I know this post is short, but this is all I have to say. Now it’s your turn – what do you like to see in a blog? What would you like to see here? (No promises, but I’ll consider everything!)
I know what you mean–we all get burnt-out on blogging sometimes. I just asked my readers what they enjoy about my blog (or what they hate!) and they were uber-helpful in steering me toward improved future posts.
I LOVE interviews (love doing them!), but I know not everyone likes them. I think that as long as you’re blogging to your target group (esp. the group your BOOKS target), you’ll get loyal readers who enjoy your posts.
The key is QUALITY. For me, that means helping my readers a bit with each post, or making them think. For other bloggers, it might mean giving 5 easy steps to do things or sharing humor/everyday life stories. Just be yourself, and the readers will come!
