Today was the day: I emailed one editor and called him by my other editor’s name.
I had been communicating with Tom at the ERN all morning. Then I typed up a pitch for Dave at GTI about a man named Tom. Sure enough, when I typed up the email, I sent it do Dave, but addressed it to Tom.
But don’t worry!! All is well 🙂 Tom and Dave are friends, and they both know that I’m writing for both papers. However, I did promise to send Tom an email and address it to Dave (I want to be fair!).
Has anyone else ever done this?? Please tell me I’m not alone…
I once called my granddaughter by my daughter's name, which isn't too uncommon, but get this: I later called my daughter by MY name. I'm sure she loved that.
You are not alone. I think most editors are secure and kind.
I've made more mistakes like that than I count. It's human nature.
I just call everyone Fred. Then I never have to worry.
If only names were the only things I've messed up… I once edited a query letter to an agent and sent it off without realizing I'd left a chunk of a sentence behind from when I was drafting it. It was just a mis-fit fragment – not even a complete sentence, if I remember correctly – in the middle of my query. I don't think the agent ever responded, and I can't blame her. Live and learn. I'm much more careful these days.
I make so many mistakes, my Sunday School kids tally them!
Christ is such a bountiful, forgiving Savior, isn't he????
