These days don’t happen often, but when I take the time for them, I’m so happy.
Today I decided I needed to get two things written:
1st – Article for ERN on a local township meeting
2nd – Article to submit to Christian periodical
I had a busy morning (balancing two check books and a savings account; getting taxes and packages ready to mail; organizing coupons – SO worth it!). Usually when I start a day like this it ends the same way: my house looks great. My page is blank.
Today I put my foot down and avoided the cat’s tail. I decided I was going to get these things written! So I did what I had to do…I packed up my computer and got out of the house.
Twenty minutes later I arrived at the library and locked my keys in the car. Not a problem. That gave me at least three hours until my hubby could come rescue me (still waiting, by the way).
I got the ERN draft done and revised. My journalist-in-another-life (pre-kids) mom proofed it and I got it submitted on time! Not bad, considering I did the interview via my cell phone from my living room this morning. I know what you’re thinking – it can’t be good. I don’t know what to say – I can write ’em quick and competent. (I don’t recommend this for everyone. I think the editor might croak if he knew my process, but it seems to be working!)
Then I sat down to article #2. Deadline – May 15th. Goal: 300 word rough draft. I reviewed the guidelines and the topic and picked up my pen (yes, many of my 1st drafts are written on a legal pad. I like the sound the pen makes on the page). Anyway…fifteen minutes later it was done. Seriously!! Now I have time to type it up, which always puts it through revisions which will give me a 2nd draft. Since I have some time, I’ll let it steep for a couple of days before I pick it up again.
And while I’m waiting??
Ahhh…back to the novel.
