The Escape Game is set in the early years of World War II. Part of the story takes place in England and the other part takes place in a POW camp in Germany. Beryl Clarke, my main female character, is in England caring for her mother after her father was killed by a German bomb that landed on their city. She also holds down a day job while volunteering as an Air Raid Warden at night. Her brother is a pilot with the RAF (Royal Air Force). He becomes a prisoner in Germany along with a college friend. Meanwhile, Beryl discovers that her company has begun making a special board game with hidden items to help prisoners escape. But since the game was not made before her brother got captured, he doesn’t know about it. Beryl tries to tell him discreetly in her letters, while at the same time, his letters are written by their mutual college friend because her brother’s arm is broken. The correspondence stirs hidden feelings between the two, left behind when they all left college due to the war. The story follows the lives of the POWs and that of Beryl as they strive for the mutual goal of seeing each other again.

I am so thankful to be part of the Heroines of WWII series from Barbour. It is truly an honor to be among the other wonderful authors in the series. God dropped this story idea in my lap, and I am thrilled with the way he put the pieces together for me. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did writing it!
