I’m excited to once again interview a new-to-me author–I love adding books to my TBR pile! Carmen Schober’s sophomore novel comes out in THREE DAYS, so make sure to read to the end to find out more about it.
Thanks so much for being here today! What was your favorite picture book as a child? What did you love about it?
Oh man, there are so many good ones! I loved anything included a lot of food or fashion, so some of my favorites were Bunny Cakes and The Berenstain Bears & Too Much Junk Food. I loved the I Spy series, too!
Where’s the most unusual place you’ve read a book?
I spent a lot of time reading while I nursed my first baby, Vivian. It wasn’t an unusual place, per say, but it felt very strange for me as an anti-night owl to stay up late and read in a dark, silent house.
Have you ever had a book recommended to you that you didn’t like? No names, but what didn’t you like about it?
I didn’t like most of the “literary” books I read in graduate school, mostly because they were character-driven rather than plot-driven, and the characters themselves were often pretty self-obsessed or being used to push a specific political agenda.
If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?
Definitely Sara Brunsvold’s character, Mrs. Kip! I need more wise Christian women in my life.
If you could turn any of your books into a movie, which would you pick? Who would cast as the main characters?’
I would love to turn After She Falls into a movie! And I would go back in time and cast young Alain Delon as Max (although he would have to lift some weights) and young Monica Bellucci as Adri. Sylvester Stallone would be Uncle Roman.
Who’s your favorite author?
My favorite author is definitely Francine Rivers. I think she does a masterful job of creating characters you care about, crackly romantic tension, and solid Christian themes in almost every book.
If you could mash any two books together, which books would you pick? How would you do it?
My personal approach is take my favorite theological books or essays and mash them up with my favorite show or movie. After She Falls was Rocky mashed with St. Paul’s teachings about being a fighter while Pretty Little Pieces was Fixer Upper mashed with some of C.S. Lewis’ ideas about pleasure and pain.
Thank you so much for being here today!
Sometimes it takes everything falling apart . . .
Ambitious influencer Georgina Havoc and her designer boyfriend have been dubbed “the next Chip and Joanna Gaines”–a power couple that flip homes all over Nashville–and they plan to merge their unique styles into their new home renovation show. But their relationship falls apart when he blindsides her with a “pause.” Forced to convince the network to take a chance on her as a solo star, Georgina takes on the task of renovating a forgotten cottage in the tiny, tight-knit town of Tarragon, Tennessee.
Facing one heartache and setback after another, Georgina moves forward with her plan to rebuild her life and save her career, but a surprise drop-in from her troubled twin sister makes things extra messy. The unexpected presence of rugged ex-sniper Cassidy Stokes also threatens to bring all the walls that she’s built crashing down.
As she puts the pieces of her previously perfect life back together, will Georgina retreat to the familiar or boldly embrace a new design?
