Facing annihilation at the hands of the warlike Vogons is a curious time to have a cosmically displaced Arthur Dent and his curious comrades in arms as they hurtle through space powered by pure improbability – and desperately in search of a place to eat. Among Arthur’s motley shipmates are Ford Prefect, a long-time friend and contributor to the The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy; Zaphod Beeblebrox, the three-armed, two-headed ex-president of the galaxy; Tricia McMilan, a fellow Earth refuge who’s gone native (her name is Trillian now); and Marvin, who suffers nothing and no one gladly.

I read book one (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) last year (I think) and loved it, so when I was road tripping and saw book two on audio, I picked it up to listen while we drove.

I was not disappointed.

Like the first book, this one is a plot wrapped in chaos soaked in nonsense illuminated by humor. I cannot keep up with Adams’s randomness, then he pulls it all together in a way that has me laughing out loud and wondering how in the world he figured out a way to get from Point A to Point B without using his hands or feet. Truly, his creativity is astounding. The only thing that would make this book perfect for me is a little romance.

A must-read for sci fi fans.
