Today’s dedicated to all my romantic suspense readers. Not only does Sarah Hamaker write romantic suspense, she reads it too. This is your chance to find out about some good romantic suspense books you’ll want to add to your book list.
Thanks for being here today! What was your favorite picture book as a child? What did you love about it?
Anything in the original Little Golden Book collection. The Saggy Baggy Elephant, Pussy Willow, and Mommy’s Little Helper are some of the titles I remember loving (and loved reading to my own kids). A while ago, there was a traveling exhibition featuring artwork from the Little Golden Books that my husband and I went to with our children. It was fascinating to see the larger color prints of the scenes in our favorite books.
What was the first adult novel that you read?
One of the first “adult” books I read was Jane Eyre, which I recall reading during free time in the eighth grade (and trying not to cry when Helen died). I loved the story of a young orphan making her way into the world on her own and the love story with Mr. Rochester.
Where’s the most unusual place you’ve read a book?
In a tree! As a child, we had this huge tree in our backyard that had four thick branches coming out of the trunk. My dad fastened a swing from one of the branches. We used to climb into the base (about four feet or so off the ground) and jump out of the tree on the swing. It also made a great place to read a book occasionally.
How fun! If you could visit any fictional place, where would you go? Why?
One of Agatha Christie’s manor homes in 1930s England! Because it would be lovely to spend some time being waited on and wearing those lovely clothes, and meeting such interesting people she always populated where books with.
If you could turn any of your books into a movie, which would you pick? Who would cast as the main characters?
I’d pick Vanished Without a Trace because the story of searching for a long-missing person resonates with so many people. For my hero, I’d have Chris Hemsworth, and for my heroine, I’d want Rachel McAdams.
Good picks. What book are you most looking forward to reading next? Why?
Bittersweet by Susan Cain. I loved her Quiet, about introverts in a world of extroverts, and can’t wait to dive into her take on bittersweet. As someone who likes a good, sad story (and who often feels melancholy in a good way), I’m looking forward to exploring her take on the subject.
Share some books from your TBR (to be read) pile.
Vendetta by Lisa Harris
Exposing a Killer by Laura Alice Eakes
A Sunlit Weapon by Jacqueline Winspear
Covert Coverup by Elizabeth Goddard
