A follow up to the profound message of Crazy Love, Pastor Francis Chan offers a compelling invitation to understand, embrace, and follow the Holy Spirit’s direction in our lives.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and … the Holy Spirit. We pray in the name of all three, but how often do we live with an awareness of only the first two? As Jesus ascended into heaven, He promised to send the Holy Spirit—the Helper—so that we could be true and living witnesses for Christ. Unfortunately, today’s church has admired the gift but neglected to open it.
Breakthrough author Francis Chan rips away paper and bows to get at the true source of the church’s power—the Holy Spirit. Chan contends that we’ve ignored the Spirit for far too long, and we are reaping the disastrous results. Thorough scriptural support and compelling narrative form Chan’s invitation to stop and remember the One we’ve forgotten, the Spirit of the living God.
I won’t lie — I’ve never listened to or read anything by Francis Chan before. I’ve heard about him, but that’s it. I picked up this audiobook from the library because I needed something to listen to on a cross-country trip. I had no expectations (I didn’t even know what the book was about).
I was shocked to realize how many similar experiences I’ve had in both conservative and charismatic churches and with people who either refuse to discuss the Holy Spirit to those who will do anything in the name of the Spirit (even forgoing Scripture for the Spirit). I’ve embraced the Spirit for years, but it’s a concept that’s always been difficult to comprehend (and often learn about, as many people won’t teach about it). I listened to this book for something to pass the time, but now I need to order myself a hard copy so I can really study the words and challenge myself to receive and accept more.
If you’ve ever wanted more from your relationship with God, or if you’ve ever wondered about the Holy Spirit, I highly recommend this book, but be warned: it will push buttons and challenge some things.
