Welcome back to another episode of, “What are you reading?” (Or what did you read … it all fits.) This week I’m thrilled to welcome fellow Elk Lake author Jane S. Daly.
Thank you for being here! What was your favorite picture book as a child? What did you love about it?
My favorite picture book was Little Pictures of Japan. It is a collection of Japanese art and poetry. It fascinated me as a child and I would constantly pressure my grandfather “What does this word say?” until he’d get super frustrated. I think that was the impetus for me to learn to read at age four. I still have the book!
What was the first chapter book you read? What did you like/not like about it?
First Chapter Book was Marian’s Big Book of Bible Stories. I read that through more than a dozen times. The pictures were amazing! I’m sure it’s out of print because my parents bought it for me in 1962.
What was the first adult novel that you read? Did you like it?
Ugh. I’m embarrassed to admit it was In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. My parents tried to keep track of my voracious reading, but this one must have slipped by them. It scared me to death, but I kept reading it. To this this day I can shake the memory
I think I’ll stay away from that one! How about movies: if you could turn any of your books into a movie, which would you pick? Who would cast as the main characters?
My upcoming novel, Broken, would make a great movie. My main character, Jinxi, would be played by Pauley Perrette, who played Abby Sciuto in NCIS. George Eads would play Dean. He was in the original CSI and now plays in the new MacGyver.
If you could turn any book into a movie (yours or someone else’s), which would you pick? Who would you cast as the main characters?
Last year I read The Three Wishes of Mr. Murray McBride. Such a great book. As a movie, the main character would have to be Michael Douglas.
Who’s your favorite author?
My favorite author is usually the one I’m reading at the moment. How can I possibly have a favorite? I read over 50 books a year. Wouldn’t it be unfair to pick one out of all those?
That’s a great answer–I’ll have to remember it! Finally, please share five books from your TBR (to be read) pile.
The Christian Left, Burden of Proof (Davis Bunn)
Stay Close (Harlan Coben)
The Summons (John Grisham)
Deliver Us From Evil (Robin Carroll)
(I love a good courtroom drama so I don’t always stick to “Christian Fiction.”)
Jane writes books for women who like a good story that won’t make them cringe. No sex, violence, or politics make it into her novels. Stories that dive deep into issues women face; infertility, infidelity, abortion, self-mutilation – sensitive subjects with a sensitive touch.
When she’s not hunched over her computer, Jane can be found traveling the United States in her motor home with her husband and two cats.Jane’s newest novel, Broken, A Story of Redemption, will release in June from Elk Lake Publishing. You can find her most recent novel, The Girl in the Cardboard Box, on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
