Talking with author Lori Vober today isn’t just an interview–it’s a miracle. After surviving a life-altering medical condition, she’s making the most of the life God’s given her and is celebrating the release of her first book! Today, she’s giving us a peek at some of her favorite books.

Thank you so much for being here! What was your favorite picture book as a child?

One of my favorite picture books was the Bernstein Bears series. As a child, I really enjoyed the characters and the story line. As an adult reading this series now, I greatly appreciated the important lessons taught and values placed in these books.

What about chapter books—which was your favorite?

One of the first chapter book series I read and fell in love with as a young teenager was the Judy Blume series. Because I grew up as an only child, I was always fascinated with Ramona, Beatrice, and their sisterly relationship.

Did you read a lot as a kid?

Growing up, we use to move a lot with my dad’s career and every time we moved, it seemed like it was time for more furniture shopping. As an only child, I spent a lot of time reading and remember always having a book with me. I don’t believe it was unusual for me to curl up on a piece of furniture in a store and start reading while my parents shopped.

How about as an adult—what’s one of your favorite novels?

One of my favorite adult series is about the Baxter Family by Karen Kingsbury. As an only child, I think it would be wonderful to be part of their family because it is large and diverse. Although there are complications among them and many trials throughout the series, they all have special relationships with each other as siblings and have very dedicated Christian parents.

If you could turn one of your books into a movie, which would you pick? Who would you cast?

If I ever had the opportunity to turn my story into a movie, I definitely would. Some of the main actors I’d like to include are Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon, Renée Zellweger, Harry Connick Jr., and Matt Damon.

This is usually a hard one, but do you have a favorite author?

My favorite author is Karen Kingsbury. I love reading her books because they deal with real and challenging topics in a fictional story setting. She also does a great job incorporating scripture throughout each book. I also love that many of her books are a series so you feel connected with the characters from one book to the next.

What’s on your TBR (to-be-read) pile right now?

I have many books to be read in the future, which include a mixture of fiction and nonfiction genres. Five of those include:

Faith, Freedom, and 4 Paws: Seeing God Through Iva’s Eye’s by Carolyn Dale Newell
A Mentor’s Fingerprint. Leave a Mark. Make a Difference by Ann Griffiths
Sacred Rest by Dr. Sandra Dalton Smith
Unwanted No More: From Exploited to Embraced by God by BJ Garrett
Love Story by Karen Kingsbury.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

I am very excited about any opportunity I have to share my story and bring hope and encouragement to others through my journey. Life rarely turns out exactly like we pictured it would, and we all face challenges along the way. We have a choice of how we will react to those challenges and unplanned circumstances.

CHOICES When You Are Faced with a Challenge, What Choice Will You Make?

Life rarely turns out exactly as you pictured it, and we all face challenges along the way.

God always has a plan.

But He leaves it up to you whether you follow His plan or not.

Life is about choices.

I have chosen to depend on God’s faithfulness through all our challenges.

  • Everyone has doubts about their own abilities, but God has a plan for each of us. So believe in Him, and don’t give up.
  • Sometimes your attitude, drive, and enthusiasm can take you further than your talents or abilities. Attitude can make all the difference.
  • Find your happiness in whom God says you are. Don’t let someone else define your happiness.

Lori Vober suffered an intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke at age twenty-nine, and then developed epilepsy due to the stroke. She is a walking miracle, and felt called to share her story, and her journey of faith and perseverance, to encourage others. Lori believes God has a plan for each of us, but life is about your choices! Even with her difficulties, she was able to become an adoptive Mom of a sibling group of three. She just published her first book through Trilogy Publishing titled, CHOICES When You Are Faced with a Challenge, What Choice Will You Make? Lori and her husband, Dainis, have been happily married for twenty-four years and reside in Goodyear, Arizona.
