I am so excited to be a guest on this blog! Reading has been my superpower since I won the prize for reading the most books in first grade. As a military brat, I attended a lot of schools and reading became my constant friend in a world of strangers. My reading taste matured from Nancy Drew to something meatier in high school. As a freshman, I ran across a classic and found it odd that my English teacher asked me if my parents minded if I read it. I thought it was a weird question, so of course, I lied and said yes, it was fine.
My mom and dad read little more than the newspaper and crosswords, so they had no opinion on 1984 by George Orwell. At fourteen, I found the book shocking. So many radical things were happening in the 60s and 70s that I wondered if Orwell saw into the future. It set my course for reading other Sci-Fi authors such as Ray Bradbury. His collection of short stories in The Illustrated Man were intriguing. I found the insights these authors had into the future of technology amazing.
I am addicted to reading so I explore many genres. I’m drawn to historical fiction and some classics. I’ve read all of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s books and the Bronte sisters and Laura Ingels Wilder. And the best of Charles Dickens. These authors influenced my historical romance writing along with all the westerns my dad watched while I was growing up. Who didn’t have a crush on Little Joe Cartwright?
I tend to marathon read. And at times it robs me of sleep. My most recent binge-read was Bent Tree Bride. Loved it so much. Historical romance done well is my favorite genre. By done well, I mean well researched so the characters feel real. Denise Weimer is a true master.
I have heard from fans that my books would make great movies. It seems contemporary romance is more often given movie contracts. The only contemporary romance I have published right now is New Duet, a story of two wounded people trying to start over. I’d have Chris Hemsworth playing Dan Sweeney, the disabled vet, and Selena Gomez playing Isabella, the abused widow. I’m open to others as long as the actor is blonde, the actress is Hispanic, and they are the right age.
In my addiction to reading, I love reading series. Mary Connealy’s recent series has me hooked. I can’t wait for book 2 of the Brothers in Arms to release. She always has a villainous thread that winds through a series, and it all comes to a final showdown in the last book. I’ve read many of her books.

Cindy has been published in a variety of publications over the past forty years. Novel writing helps her get those pesky characters who talk to her in the shower and interrupt her sleep out into the literary world.
