As an author, one of my favorite things is meeting other authors who love, read, and write the same genre. That’s why I’m tickled to meet and introduce Tabitha Bouldin, a fellow lover of contemporary romance. Let’s see what she’s been reading…

Thanks for being here today! What was your favorite chapter book? What did you love about it?
I was a fiend for any book that had horses (and I still am). My favorites were the Phantom Stallion series by Terri Farley and The Black Stallion series by Walter Farley (they are not related, I checked). I loved the adventure that came with every book, and I knew that the horses would always be the center of attention.

What was the first book you read that you couldn’t put down?
I felt that way about pretty much every book I picked up, but I remember one story in particular that absolutely stole my attention. It also happened to be the first fantasy book I ever read: The Elf Queen by Terry Brooks. I was fascinated by the way he weaved these amazing characters, the tension he packed into a story and that gut-wrenching pull that said the heroine’s peril might be more than she could overcome.

What was the last book you read that you couldn’t put down?
Hands down, Erin Bartel’s All That We Carried. Her tale of sisterhood, with all its complexities, and the way she weaved the sisters together while taking them on a physical journey that showcased their spiritual troubles made me want to sink deep into the cushions and not look up. The instant I read the last page, I wanted to flip back to the beginning and read it all over again.

If you could be part of any fictional family, which would you pick?
That’s a tough one, but I’d have to go with Becky Wade’s Bradford family. They seem like they’d be a lot of fun, and I know I’d fit right in with Britt at her shop.

If you could turn any book into a movie (yours or someone else’s), which would you pick? Who would you cast as the main characters?
I need Morgan Busse’s new steampunk series to be made into movies. I don’t care that I haven’t even read them yet, I know they’ll be phenomenal, and I want to see them on the big screen. She writes such amazing stories, with deep characters and vivid worlds of fantasy. It’s a win-win. I’m not sure who would play the main characters, since I haven’t read the books yet. I feel like Dylan McDermott would make a good Theodore, and perhaps Keira Knightley as Cass.

Share five books from your TBR (to be read) pile.
Hope Between the Pages by Pepper Basham
Realms of Light by Ronie Kendig
To Save a King by Rachel Hauck
At Lighthouse Point by Suzanne Woods Fisher
Pint of no Return by Dana Mentink

I think that pretty much covers my reading preferences since most of my favorite genres are represented. I’m reading these between now and June. My TBR is out of control but I love it. Always something new to read.

If you could mash any two books together, which books would you pick? How would you do it?
I’m cheating on this one since I actually did this and wrote a mashup of Alice in Wonderland and Frankenstein. It’s a steampunk Wonderland where Frankenstein’s monster is seeking redemption for all the things he’s done, and Alice is attempting to save Wonderland from the Red Queen. It’s a little bit of the classics, thrown into a steampunk world, and given a Christian Fiction twist. It should be released in 2022.
