Today we’re taking a break from interviewing novelists to chat with Susan Neal, author of several healthy living books (including something for those of us who are gluten-intolerant).
Welcome, and thanks for chatting with me today! What was the first book you read that you couldn’t put down?
The Hobbit was the first book I read that I couldn’t put down. J. R.R. Tolkien created a world of hobbits, orcs, and wizards that swept me away. I couldn’t wait to read The Lord of the Rings trilogy after finishing The Hobbit.
The last book I read that I couldn’t put down was American Dirt by Jeanine Cummings. This was the latest book my book club read. It is part of Oprah’s Book Club and a real page-turner. It offers a different perspective regarding illegal immigrants—a very heart-wrenching story.
Have you ever had a book recommended to you that you didn’t like?
I was not fond of Five Days Gone by Laura Cumming. It was slow, and the author did not use point of view correctly. It was difficult to understand who was talking and whose viewpoint a scene was coming from.
If you could visit any fictional place, where would you go?
I would like to visit the Shire from The Hobbit. It seemed like a beautiful place.
If you could turn any book into a movie, which would you pick?
I would like to see the book of Revelation from the Bible turned into a movie. That would be incredible.
What book are you most looking forward to reading next?
I am looking forward to reading the next book chosen by our book club, Camino Island. The author is John Grisham, who writes incredible crime thriller novels.
