I can admit that I rolled my eyes when adult coloring books starting hitting the shelves – not because I think they’re silly, but because I’ve been coloring since I was a child and I never really stopped. It was about time other adults figured out why I enjoy it so much!
I’ve seen several coloring books in stores, but they don’t all appeal to me, especially mandalas. I wanted to find a beautiful, relaxing, not-inspired-by-other-religions-or-mysticism book. When I found out that my friend Ann-Margret Hovsepian was writing and illustrating one, I knew I wanted to get hers. Imagine my delight when she asked if I’d like to review it for her – of course! (Just because I know her doesn’t mean she automatically gets a good review though; check my history and you’ll see that I don’t sugar coat things).
I know Ann-Margret and I know her spirit, and her creativity, sincerity, and sweet strength of character come across in not only her pictures, but also in her devotions (there are forty included). I’ve always known she’s an excellent writer – now I’m also amazed by her artistic talent.
To be perfectly honest, I had no idea how frustrating adult coloring books can be. I guess I’m not all that patient, as I’ve spent a couple of hours coloring and am only about halfway done with one picture. Part of me wants to just hurry up and finish all ready, but another part of me rejoices in knowing that I’ll be able to enjoy this book for quite a while as I take my time with each illustration.
If you’re sincerely interested in an adult coloring book that will help you relax and refresh, I highly recommend this book. The truth of God’s word combined with Ann-Margret’s touching stories and intricate illustrations provide an uplifting coloring experience.
