Lots of people have great story ideas, but most of those people never write a single word. The only reason I know about them is because everyone tells a writer about their stories. I think people believe that we writers have some secret to share that will help write them get their work  published. I would say that’s not true, but it is. We do have a secret – we did it. That’s the trick.

J is for Just Do It

As in everything in life, if you don’t start moving, you won’t get results. You can’t get healthy if you never start exercising.  You won’t make money if you don’t get a job.  And you definitely won’t get published if you never start writing.

A good idea, even if you have a strong desire, isn’t enough.  You need to act.  If you want to write an essay, article, or book, write it.  No excuses.

Believe it or not, there was once a time when I didn’t have anything published.  At one time in his life, Stephen King hadn’t written a single book.  Janet Evanovich was once a stay-at-home-mom.  No one’s born with a resume of published works. It’s simply a matter of putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard).

That’s it – that’s the secret. Just do it.

So, tell me, what are you waiting for?
