As 2010 (that’s “twenty-ten”) comes to an end, I’m looking ahead to 2011. I feel like I should review this past year before I start making plans for another one, but I’m gonna stick with this order.
While I’ll still waiting to finalize a few things, 2011 will present some new options to me. I can’t talk about some of that (yet), but I can dish about my blog. I’m going to continue to tweak things around here until I come up with a comfortable, sustainable plan.
As many of you might know (I hope!), I’m now a contributing writer for a midwest blog called The Barn Door (www.thebarndoor.net). I also maintain my personal blog (The Ramblings). It’s become a bit time commitment. I don’t mind it at all, but I need to do what I can to make sure I’m not devoting all of my time to these fun, yet unpaid, outlets.
One thing I’m going to look at for 2011 is the author interview/book giveaway. For two years now I’ve been going strong with a new book out every month. However, I also giveaway the books that I review/influence, so it’s not uncommon for me to have 2-3 books a month to hand out. I don’t want my blog to become all about the giveaway (This is about me, remember? Just humor my little Narcissis, will you?)
With that in mind, I still want to feature a published author every month – someone who’s had a book published that wants to inspire/challenge/scare the rest of us. I just don’t think I’m going to ask them to give away a book anymore. I’ll still have the occasional free book, but sporadically. I want to focus on getting myself to the point of publication, and coordinating the monthly giveaways can get time consuming.
So that’s one direction I’ll be changing. Another, well…I’ll tell you about that later. The other big change will be as I continue to focus my blog, finding out what I really want to do here, and how to best accomplish that.
Now that I’ve written this out, it doesn’t seem like such a big deal. In fact, I feel a little silly having devoted an entire post to it, but it is almost midnight, and I’m usually in bed by ten. Besides, this blog is still about me, and since I write it I can pretty much publish what I want, right? And now that I’ve gotten this far, I’m not sure I want to scrap the whole post and start over – no more wasting time, right?
I knew you’d understand.
