Last month I was checking my blog when I noticed an unexpected change – my background disappeared. It was a free background from an outside source. I’d used their designs before, usually changing the theme with each season (I’m easily bored – the change is good for me).

However, something about their service had changed. On this blog and on my personal blog (here), the backgrounds disappeared after just a few weeks. While that alone is annoying, the timing was even worse – I had my old, sometimes-I-like-to-disconnect-from-the-internet laptop, and was staying with my internet provider-less sister. Not only was my internet access limited, but I didn’t want to spend it searching for a blog design that might flake out later. Instead, I zipped through Blogger’s design options, picked one, then ran.

What you see here represents minimal effort and zero planning. Part of me thinks it’s boring. Another part of me thinks the simplicity rocks. And then there’s the part of me that color codes my closet, and that part LOVES this design…because it works well with my website (http://www.karinbeery.com/ – not quite finished yet…almost there!). For that reason alone, I think I’ll keep it. Besides, if I get bored I can always color my hair.

QUESTION: How did you pick your blog design?
