I picked up this book after interviewing the author for an article–the intro on the back of the book didn’t originally pique my interest, but my conversation with her did. Discovering Your Spiritual DNA is about more than figuring out what spiritual DNA means; it looks at mental health, Scripture, and how the two come together.
Who this book is for:
– New(er) Christians
– People wanting to understand the basics of the mental/physical health connection
– People wanting to understand the basics of the mental health/Christian faith connection
If you’ve been a Christian for a while (or comfortable/familiar with Scripture) or have studied much about mental health, this book might be too basic for you. I’ve spent the last several years learning a lot about mental health and I’ve been a Christian since I was eight, so I already know and understand a lot of what’s in this book.
Even so … there were some beautiful tips and explanations that clarified things or helped me see things from a different perspective. That’s why I’m always in favor of reading more–almost every book will teach you something new, even if you’re familiar with all the material.
Overall, I think this is a great beginner/intermediate level book for people starting their journey into the mental health/Christian realm, as it lays a solid foundation for the two.
