If you’re not a reader, I highly recommend this book.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book–I won it at a conference, but have never read the original book. I worried that I would feel lost or unprepared, but that was hardly the case. This is actually one of those books I would recommend to:
– New Christians
– Christians struggling with “God time”
– Christians who want to develop biblical disciplines but don’t know where to start
– Busy Christians who don’t have 1-2 hours to read the Bible
– Christians looking for ways to connect with God outside of church and Scripture
– Christians coming out of legalism
Brough’s book is a fun collection of “words” from the Father (encouragement and Scripture written as if spoken from God to the reader), with each chapter including “sound bites” (short, easy-to-read encouragements), reflection questions, a list of songs that go along with that chapter’s theme, and–my favorite–ideas for researching/developing that theme in practical, outside-the-church ways (ideas for music, art, physical activities, etc.).
I simply fell in love with the concept of this book. Do I agree with all of her theology? No, but there aren’t many people who agree on everything 100%. But this I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to someone new to Christianity or coming out of legalism/a controlling church.
