My first Elin Hilderbrand book, so I didn’t know what to expect (for some reason I thought she wrote historical fiction). It took me a couple of chapters to get into the book, as I didn’t quite understand the point-of-view characters at first (I listened to the audio; I suspect the physical book may have cues in it to help with that).
Once I settled into the story, though, I was hooked. I loved the diversity of characters and their traits, the unique setting, and even the unexpected supernatural element (which didn’t feel gimicky or unnatural). Even more importantly, I so appreciated that this story had all the feels without any step-by-step sex scenes or excessive swearing–I was able to feel the romance, the fear, the love, and the evil without the play-by-plays and f-bombs.
The romantic in me wanted everything to come together perfectly but the realist in me loved that everything didn’t. This will not be my last Hilderbrand book.
