It’s no secret I’m a BIG fan of fiction, but I’m reading more and more nonfiction these days, and I love it! There’s something to be said for busting out of our genre boundaries and exploring all the magic of the written word.

Debbie Wilson has done that. A lover of all kinds of books, just because she writes nonfiction doesn’t mean she doesn’t enjoy a good novel. Here to tell her about her mystery-loving ways (and her newest release!) is Debbie Wilson.

Thank you so much for being here! What was your favorite picture book as a child? What did you love about it?
When I was very young, someone gave me a children’s book about a girl named Debbie who had blond hair and blue eyes—like me. The book chronicled an ordinary day, but because she shared my name, I enjoyed the girl and her activities.

What was your favorite chapter book? What did you love about it?
A friend introduced me to Nancy Drew books. She read the first chapter to me, and I was hooked. The series always topped my wish list for birthday and Christmas gifts. I still love mysteries with suspense, a puzzle to solve, and a touch of romance.

I loved Nancy too! I think she’s almost a rite of passage for young readers. 😊

Have you ever finished a story and wished it had ended differently? Which story? How would you have changed the ending?
I read Gone with the Wind in high school and cried all day at the ending. I wanted Rhett and Scarlet to soften their proud hearts and mutually recognize their love for each other.

If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be? Why?
It’s hard to pick just one. But I think I’ll pick Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. I loved his wisdom and courage.

If you could visit any fictional place, where would you go? Why?
I’d choose to be magically transported to Narnia. I want to meet all the charming characters and watch the trees dance. I’d love to talk with the animals and meet Aslan, the great lion. I’d like to sail on a Narnian ship and see the living jewels deep beneath Narnia.

What book are you most looking forward to reading next? Why?
DiAnn Mills’ Trace of Doubt arrived today. I can wait to get into it. Her tagline, “Expect an Adventure” always holds true. For nonfiction, I recently purchased C. S. Lewis’ The Christian in the World. I enjoy his insights and look forward to seeing how they apply to the craziness going on in our world today.

Who’s your favorite author? Why?
C. S. Lewis is my all-time favorite. I enjoy his fiction and nonfiction. However, I’m enjoying several Christian female romantic suspense authors right now. Lynette Eason, DiAnn Mills, Brandilyn Collins, and Lisa Carter write well-researched books and combine suspense, a puzzle, and varying degrees of romance. The girl who loved Nancy Drew still lives on! Some of their books tackle some sticky real-life issues. I can trust these authors not to pepper their stories with offensive language or scenes you wish you could erase.
