Evidence in their hands…and a crime ring on their trail.
Someone will do anything to get Mackenzie Weaver’s documentary footage—even kill her. US deputy marshal Jake Riley won’t let anyone harm Mackenzie, especially since he’s beginning to see her as more than his late friend’s little sister. But exploring their growing connection isn’t an option…because keeping an emotional distance is his best hope of outmaneuvering criminals determined to make this project Mackenzie’s last.
My first book by Kathleen Tailer and my continued attempts to read outside my normal books brought me to this book. I don’t want to sound snobby or judgmental, so please don’t take it that way, but this story is kind of everything I expected from a Love Inspired romantic suspense — not too deep, a bit cheesy, and a few head scratching moments that culminated in a quick wrap up and an engagement.
Don’t get me wrong — I don’t begrudge anyone who enjoys lots of introspection and a bit of cheese. To each his own. Obviously the LIS line has its readers, and that’s great! I just don’t think I’m one of them. I would have liked a little more action though (there seemed to be a lot of long descriptive paragraphs for a suspense novel).
Overall, however, it started out with action and kept the main characters in danger throughout the story. Their spiritual development is more of an afterthought than a main plot point, but it’s there and is developed throughout the story. If you’re looking for a romantic suspense that’s not too scary or too romantic, give this book a try.
