Amelia Barrett, heiress to an estate nestled in the English moors, defies family expectations and promises to raise her dying friend’s baby. She’ll risk everything to keep her word—even to the point of proposing to the child’s father—a sea captain she’s never met.
When the child vanishes with little more than an ominous ransom note hinting to her whereabouts, Amelia and Graham are driven to test the boundaries of their love for this little one.
Amelia’s detailed plans would normally see her through any trial, but now, desperate and shaken, she’s forced to examine her soul and face her one weakness: pride.
Graham’s strength and self-control have served him well and earned him much respect, but chasing perfection has kept him a prisoner of his own discipline. And away from the family he has sworn to love and protect.
Both must learn to accept God’s sovereignty and relinquish control so they can grasp the future He has for planned for them.

I’m not usually a fan of Regency romance, but I had the pleasure of reading the first chapter of this novel as part of a writing contest and it hooked me then. I couldn’t wait to read the entire story! Sarah Ladd’s debut novel pulls you in with vivid settings, captivating characters, and a romantic, suspenseful plot. I felt like I could relate to the characters, main and secondary, and their situations, and couldn’t wait to find out what they would do next. I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series. A fun, enjoyable read.
To help Sarah promote her debut novel, I’m giving away a free copy of The Heiress of Winterwood. Just leave a comment with your contact info and I’ll put you in the drawing to win! I’ll pick the winner on Friday, May 26 – good luck!
*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review as part of the Thomas Nelson BookSneeze program. These opinion are my own.
I read a few chapters in critique and thought they were good. Great to see it published.
